For the past year and a bit, with all this hype leading up to the release of Tim Burton’s almost-sequel, Alice in Wonderland, the media has been going pretty Alice-crazy.

I thought at one point, ‘maybe it’s just me- maybe I’m just now seeing all of the Alice things that are out there’… but then I pondered it over a bit more and saw that it was much more than my lack of observational skills.

Clever marketing. Last year, SyFy Channel released their version of Alice in Wonderland, simply titled ‘Alice’, starring Caterina Scorsone as Alice and Andrew Lee Potts as Hatter (with Tim Curry and Kathy Bates thrown in there). It’s a modern depiction that I love dearly, with a casino as the Red Queen’s castle and flying flamingo-crafts.

But that’s not my point. My point is that even though it was originally aired sometime last November, it didn’t come out on DVD until March 2nd, just a few days before Tim Burton’s opened in theatres. Clever… very clever, indeed. Why shouldn’t they release it then? Lots of impulse buyers, looking to get their hands on anything and everything Alice before the big day, hoping to educate themselves on it a bit more I suppose.

And it’s not just recent editions of Alice that have surfaced; I’ve seen DVD-ified versions of Alice from the 80s, the 90s, even the 50s or 60s, I believe (not the cartoon- the very first live-action). And speaking of the cartoon, that’s supposed to be coming out on DVD for a while, then heading back to the ‘Disney Vault’.

So, bottom line, well done, marketing industry. You’ve done well for yourselves in the Year of Alice.

It’s not often that I find things to complain about, but the downfall of today’s society is something that requires a little attention.

I mean Twilight- what is that about? (I feel that Fozzie should be here with some jokes and a ‘wocka wocka’).
A billion-year-old vampire falls in love with a teenage mortal girl, then spends three more books trying to convince her that they’re not right for each other. Is that really a good thing to be teaching teenagers; that it’s okay to waste a year of your life being paralyzed by the fact that a boy (who did not even proclaim himself your boyfriend) has left you for good.

What happened to good, old fashioned entertainment?
What happened to good shows like Fraggle Rock and The Muppet Show?

Times have changed more than I can express in words, and even though I’ve been around since 1955 and have lived through it all, I still don’t fully understand why the entertainment of today has become so contentless and bland.

Well, that’s all I have to say.

One of the top things on my list is definitely the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince premiere. I remember we all got dressed up and we went to the midnight show. Simply wonderful! (Aside from the fact that we lost THE greatest wizard of all time).

Science classes with Cynthia and Drizzle were great…

Come to think about it, I think all of last year was really great.

I really don’t know what to say, actually. I think I’ve forgotten most of what I was going to say, given that I’ve been planning this post (and it’s been sitting in my drafts folder) since January.

Anywho, I’ve got a show coming up this weekend and I’m mostly excited, and there’s school and junk, but everyone lives through that every day, so I won’t elaborate on it.

Hey. It’s been a while since we last talked. How have you been? What did you get for Christmas? What’d you do for New Years? I bet you did something fun.

I don’t know why I’ve picked today, of all days, to write you, but… I don’t know, I just feel like we haven’t spoken in a while, and it’d be really nice to hear from you. I miss having you to keep me company when I stay up until three AM thinking about all the things that are going wrong in my life, instead of focusing on the good. I need that. I need to be able to focus on the good again, but I can’t do that because you left me.

Plans? I’ve got none. Christmas Day we’re supposed to be going to my aunt and uncle’s in Kitchener because my cousin and other aunt and uncle will be there, but other than that I can’t honestly say I have anything going on.

See, since I was small, we’ve been going to relatives’ houses for Christmas dinner, and while that’s usually a grand old time (haha- what a joke!), I’ve always wanted the opportunity to stay home for the evening. Especially when I was younger and had all those fun toys to play with! Nowadays, though, I think it’s more me just wanting to experience it. A nice, quiet little dinner…

Don’t get me wrong or take that the wrong way- I love seeing and spending time with family, but I’d also like to stay home and do that.

I remember when I was little I used to wake up at ungodly hours and, in turn, wake my parents and insist that we go check our stockings and look under the tree to see what Santa brought us. They’d tell me to go back to bed, so I would… I didn’t sleep, but I went back to bed. When I figured it was an appropriate time to wake them up again, I did, and then I’d call relatives and they’d come over to watch me open gifts. To this day, I don’t know what sort of pleasure they had in that, but whatever floats your boat.

Enough reminisces…

I’m getting a little annoyed that any spelling mistakes aren’t being corrected right now (as in, the usual Firefox red underline), so if you have found any spelling errors in this post, I apologize. I’m going to go see if I can fix that.

Unfortunately the snow has decided this year that, no, it doesn’t like us, so it’s not going to appear at any time throughout December when we would very much like snow days. Thanks.

I do hope there’s some snow for Christmas, though, because it just won’t be Christmas without it. Anyone else finding it hard to get into the Christmas spirit with this severe lack of white, fluffy stuff? I know I am.

Anywho, I was forced to write my Christmas list this morning because apparently people ‘want to know what we can get you’, so there you are. I hope you enjoy my Sandy Kennedy wishlist, people.

Some people say it isn’t nice, but honestly, they’re just setting themselves up for doodle-mustaches and little devil horns. I mean, really. Come on.

I do appreciate, though, the fact that they know when you’re going to be running low on the other’s papers, so you get a new one dropped in your mailbox. ♥

It used to be alright when I was a little kid, because I’d just go off and do whatever. Now, though, I feel obligated to stay and put up with adultly chat habits instead of sitting on my computer (yet we must face the fact that computers are not all they’re cracked up to be. That may or may not have made sense with the preceding sentence).

I think as you get older, too, relatives/companypeeps’ like for you tends to start to disappear. When you’re little, you’re adorable and fluffy, but when you get older, you’re just kind of there, and apparently that’s annoying.

Anywho… Bottom line here is that I’m really bored. Somebody please entertain me before I go insane.

Mind, I could be watching the second act of ‘Sunday in the Park With George’, but… well it’s too late for that now.

Or, you know, working on my NaNoWriMo story, but… Nah.

And it’s not even that they’re actually doing any construction. The lanes remain blocked off even when there isn’t any working going on- tell me, what purpose does that serve?

Anyway, I suppose I shouldn’t complain. After all, I’m not the one that has to go out and actually do the construction. That’s nice.
